I cook like a chef and think like a scientist.
The way I eat keeps evolving.

There's no finish line. That's the point.

Hi, I'm Tammie. Holistic Nutritionist, chef, mother of two — and the founder of UmaMe.

I grew up eating between cultures.

I moved to Canada at seven, and by nine I was cooking for my family. There was white rice at every meal. Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore, New York, Bangkok — every place I've lived ended up on my plate. My food has never needed to choose a side.

Food wasn't always my job.

I spent nearly twenty years in television production and sports marketing before I trained as a chef at the Natural Gourmet Institute in New York and as a Holistic Nutritionist at Bauman College in California. The two trainings taught me one thing: nutrition is a science, and cooking is an art. You need both.

Then my own body taught me the rest.

At 39, eating cleaner than I ever had, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Today my HbA1c sits at 5.6% — the top edge of normal. The way I eat is still evolving, and it always will be.

It taught me that healthy food isn't always the right food for you. And that knowing what to eat is never the hard part. Doing it — around children, work, culture and cravings — is.

That's why UmaMe exists: flavour first, your own body's data, and a community of women doing it together.

What I believe

  • A braised dish in a clay pot with a bowl of mixed grains
Healthy eating isn't a virtue. It's a skill. One most of us were never taught.
  • A bowl of golden soup on a woven gold placemat
Your habits aren't failing because of willpower. It's the patterns underneath. We look at those together.
  • Crisp tofu cubes with herbs and shallots on a white plate
If it doesn't taste good, you won't keep eating it. So we start with flavour.

What women say

When I first met Tammie, I was struggling with injuries and health issues. After many medical attempts, nothing seemed to work and I had millions of unanswered questions.

Right from the start, Tammie was warm, empathetic, and very knowledgeable. Some of her diet and supplement adjustments made a huge impact and I feel so much better. She taught me where to purchase the best quality products, plan effectively, and prepare food in a really tasty way.

I'm injury-free and I can finally enjoy my sport again. Tammie's approach was inspiring, action-oriented, and non-judgemental, which made a sustained impact on me.

I can't recommend Tammie HIGHLY enough!

Working with Tammie was exactly what I was looking for. I started her programme with some health conditions and needing to lose a fair amount of weight. I felt immobilised and was confused by all the different diets and conflicting nutritional information out there. Tammie devised a holistic plan that not only met my nutritional and health needs but engaged with the behavioural and emotional dimensions too. She even helped this convenience food lover learn to cook and develop a deep appreciation for close-to-the-Earth and delicious food that I can cook myself. Perhaps most importantly she has also been a constant, positive, non-judgemental companion on this journey. I am well on the way to finding a healthier, happier me and I could not be more grateful!

— Raquel

Tammie did a pantry clear-out at our house recently. She's super passionate and incredibly knowledgeable about all things related to food and nutrition. Her approach is hands-on and encouraging — the fact that she's also a professional chef is a huge bonus. I'd recommend Tammie to anyone looking to make a positive change to their diet, health and general well-being.

Down 9 kilos & feeling like myself again—even through perimenopause! Tammie helped me understand how food affects my hormones and guided me toward sustainable choices. This isn't just weight loss; it's reclaiming control over my health during a challenging transition. Life-changing support!

— Farah

Working with Tammie has been a turning point for my digestion and long-standing allergies. With just a few smart changes—like swapping grains, adding plant-based proteins, and focusing on nutrient-dense foods—I started seeing real shifts. Her support helped me build better habits and stay consistent, and for the first time in years, I feel truly comfortable and in control of my health.
